Expert served on several committees of the American Iron and Steel Institute dealing with the corrosion of steel. Among these are the Corrosion Advisory Group (CAG), which Expert organized and chaired to support the development of High Performance weathering steels, and the Corrosion Task Force which Expert chaired during development of the SAE J2334 cyclic corrosion test for evaluating coated steel sheet for automobiles.
During a 34-year career in the research department of a major steel producer, Expert was responsible for atmospheric corrosion testing of all steel products, including Galvalume and galvanized metallic-coated products, and weathering steels. Atmospheric tests were conducted at standardized sites representing a range of environments, such as: Kure Beach, NC 25-meter (severe marine); Kure Beach, NC 250-meter (moderate marine); Bethlehem, PA (industrial); and Saylorsburg, PA (rural). As a member of the ASTM G01 Corrosion Committee, Expert was actively involved in atmospheric testing of metals at a variety of sites, including: Kure Beach, NC; Point Reyes, CA; Panama Canal Zone; State College, PA, and Newark-Kearney, NJ. Expert has authored numerous articles describing these tests, and have organized symposia on Atmospheric testing for NACE and ASTM. Expert was responsible for organizing the 2001 ASTM symposium on atmospheric corrosion, and editing the book, Outdoor Atmospheric Corrosion, ASTM STP 1421. Expert also developed the ASTM calculator for estimating the corrosion resistance of weathering steels according to ASTM G101. These activities provided Expert with contacts and experience that are valuable to his clients in selecting and testing corrosion resistant steel products.
During a 34-year career in the research department of a major steel producer, Expert was responsible for development and corrosion testing of all steel products intended for use in the automobile industry, including coated body panel sheet steels such as hot-dip galvanized and electroplated zinc, galvanneal, Zincrometal, and zinc-alloy electroplated.
Expert chaired a NACE committee on automobile corrosion, and chaired the joint AISI-SAE corrosion committee during the development of the SAE J2334 corrosion test. In the course of the J2334 development, a large number of other laboratory corrosion tests, such as B117 salt spray, GM9540P, were evaluated and compared to on-vehicle tests. These activities provided him with contacts and experience that are valuable to his clients in selecting and testing corrosion-resistant steel products for the road-salt automotive environment. They also provided the credibility needed to provide expert witness service leading to success in litigation involving a potential multi-billion-dollar liability.
During a 34-year career in the research department of a major steel producer as an engineer, supervisor, manager, and consultant, Expert was responsible for development and corrosion testing of corrosion-resistant steel products. In 2001, Expert founded a consulting company, providing technical assistance and expert witness services related to corrosion-resistant coated sheet and alloy steels used in the automotive and construction industries. His work has been reported in over 85 publications and 19 US Patents. Expert chaired corrosion-related committees for AISI, ASTM and NACE. Numerous awards include the NACE Speller Award, and he is a Fellow of ASTM and NACE. Expert's work in corrosion testing, fundamental corrosion studies, and development of corrosion-resistant products provides a wealth of expertise and international recognition that is valuable to his clients.
Expert has been a member of NACE International since 1967, and have participated in numerous NACE committees as a member and chairperson. Expert has organized and chaired several symposia. Expert received the NACE Speller Award for excellence in corrosion engineering, and am a NACE Fellow. The experience and contacts provided by his NACE participation add considerably to the value and credibility of his work on behalf of clients.
