He completed his resident training in pediatric in 1979 and neurology in 1980 at two different teaching hospitals in Missouri. He also completed additional fellowship training in child neurology and pediatric epilepsy in 1991. His research interest and past publications has been on specific topics such as neonatal neurology, brain injury, periventricular intraventricular hemorrhage, central nervous system infections, brainstem astrocytomas, migraine variants and mimics, clinical neurophysiology of infancy, childhood and adolescence, manifestations of metabolic, toxic, and degenerative diseases, infectious diseases, brainstem glioma, brainstem auditory evoked responses, audiometry and ototoxicity in children receiving cisplatin, nitrazepam, treatment of high risk medulloblastoma and primitive neuroectodermal tumors with pre-irradiation cisplatin and etoposide, cisplatin and etoposide (VP-16) for recurrent brain tumors in childhood, effects of treatment sequence on ototoxicity due to cisplatin and radiation in pediatric brain tumor patients, patterns of dissemination and recurrence in childhood ependymoma and hyperfractionated irradiation for childhood ependymoma.
