She completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics at Montefiore / Albert Einstein and her child abuse / forensic pediatrics fellowship at Hackensack University Medical Center. For the past 15 years, Expert has been director for Child Abuse Pediatrics related activities in at the county level in New York. This includes educational activities at New York Medical College (medical student, resident, fellowship teaching), medical leadership of the county's multidisciplinary child abuse evaluation program and administrative / medical leadership of child abuse related issues at the county medical center.
Expert has evaluated over 5,000 children and adolescents with concerns of physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect or child fatalities. She is a well-rounded, well-regarded expert witness with extensive experience in criminal and family court proceedings. Expert has also served as an expert and/or consultant on various civil proceedings including general and child abuse related malpractice, child safety/child product usage and child supervision related to product usage, choking incidents and baby/infant products.
Expert lectures extensively to medical, law enforcement, child protective services and community agencies, and is one of twelve statewide mentors for the New York Child Abuse Medical Providers Network (CHAMP).
Expert is a full member of the prestigious Helfer Society for Child Abuse Pediatricians. She is director of one of two forensic pediatric fellowship programs in New York State. She is also engaged in several exciting research projects on topics such as the use of forensic light in the detection of bruising, the role of co-sleeping in child fatalities, shaken baby syndrome and sexual abuse.
She is co-Principal Investigator for the a state Shaken Baby Prevention Initiative, a statewide prevention and research program providing standardized education for parents of newborns in the region on shaken baby syndrome. Expert serves on a county child fatality review team and is actively involved in the review and analysis of every unexpected fatality in the county. She has developed several legislative initiatives with state legislators in the areas of education funding, physical abuse reimbursement, child assault and child fatality review.
Expert is a board certified child abuse pediatrician and director of a large regional child abuse pediatrics program. She has well rounded experience as a consultant and/ for civil and criminal matters across the country, including military and public agency work. She has significant clinical, academic, research, teaching and administrative experience in the areas of child abuse (sexual, physical, neglect), child homicide/fatalities, child safety including choking. strangulation and and other accidental/intentions injuries related to abuse and/or child product usage.
