He has worked in Kuttampuzha Forest Range, which is notorious in Kerala for the criminal belligerents in encroachment, timber theft, poaching and Cannabis sativa cultivation. The area of forester consists of both forest and non-forest areas. Generally, the area of a Forester may be ranging from five to thirty square kilometers. Recently, he had the jurisdiction area of 261.2 square kilometers in Pullamkandam Section.
Being a Forester, Expert's duty centralized in and around the forests. Evergreen forests, Deciduous Forests, Shola Forest, Grasslands and Mangroves are the major types of forests. The forest property includes flower to seed, root to leaf, seedlings to trees, poles to timber, land to river, fur to ivory, venison to trophy, local to exotic, aquatic to winged, endangered to plenty, amphibians to mammals and domesticated to wild. The steep and often abrupt topography creates great special variations in climate and soil, resulting in high levels of biodiversity and local endemism.
Expert has worked in the Central Nursery at Chettikkulam belonging to Chalakudy Forest Division in the Department. Then, the Nursery provided seedlings to almost 1/3 of the plantations in the Department. They used root trainer containers for growing the seedlings. They dibbled pre-germinated seeds in the root trainer containers. They filled shells with potting mixture. Compost is the major portion of potting mixture. Therefore, they collected weeds in a large scale from the surroundings, chopped by using machinery, heaped with urea, and wet. They turned the heaps several times in a week and dried and fined portion become a portion of the potting mixture.
The Forester has to think globally and act locally. The Expert's mission is to include planting as many trees as possible in all the non-forest lands as well as in other suitable areas available outside the forests to mitigate the impacts of global warming. It is his incessant duty on nature conservation awareness among public through the activities and awareness programmes.
Expert led his section for planting operation and post planting activities in Panamkutty Teak Plantation. He also joined Scout Hill Teak Plantation in 2009 where he led the post planting operations.
