Working with CPA firms, Expert has performed financial audits, tax analysis, and preparation of Federal and State taxes for income, payroll, and sales.
Expert's experience in Corporate accounting has meant preparing financial statements for large and small companies, but has also included managing accounting departments and reporting to the Board of Directors on systems and internal operations. Expert has performed internal audits and system reviews, managed system implementation and worked as liaison for external (CPAs) audits for both public and private companies. One example of Expert's experience is that of managing the consolidation of accounting and tax reporting for a publishing company with 7 corporations and 12 divisions.
Expert has managed accounting departments for both large and small entities, including his current position as CFO at a forensic consulting firm. Analysis of financial information and presenting that information in a clear and understandable manner has been one of Expert's strengths.
Expert has also worked as a consultant for Fortune 500 companies in the areas of systems auditing, tax review, accounts payable and receivable review, cash flow and determination of ability to service debt.
Accounting data and financial statements are a company's communication of its strengths and weaknesses in the industry in which it operates. But that information must be analyzed from the perspective of internal accounting systems, management accounting philosophy, financial history and industry comparisons. Making financial information understandable to management, so that information can be used to direct operations, is the primary purpose of internal accountants and financial management.
However, for a financial consultant to be effective there must be an understanding of how the accounting information affects and interacts with all key parts of the business. The four key parts to any business are Production, Marketing and Sales, Information (including accounting), and Human Resources.
In management roles, Expert has set up product pricing and costing systems, budget set-up and implementation, organized staffing for multiple division companies, and actually changed the culture of a company by changing management structure and interaction with employees.
Over the last 3 years Expert has focused on forensic accounting or analysis of financial information as it relates to dispute resolution for mediation and trial. Case work has included cost analysis, cost summaries, analysis of delay costs, and project valuations from an accounting perspective.
Forensic Accounting: Expert prepared reconciliations and cost summaries for a client in a construction defect case. Expert proved that the opposing accountants/experts missed over $300,000 in project costs and payments, representing 15% of the settlement amount. Expert's clear presentation of the financial data to the opposing accountants and mediator contributed to an expedited resolution. Consulting/Auditing: Expert's analysis of the accounts payable system at a Fortune 100 company resulted in over $3.5 million in cash returned to the client, with continuing savings because of recommendations for system improvements.
Two public utilities asked Expert to review sales and use tax issues and resulted in recoveries of over $2 million and with the implementation of best practices and review procedures, these companies have seen savings of over $200,000 per year since the engagement.Accounting Systems: Expert has set up automated accounting systems for a variety of clients in several industries. One example is a large company with 12 divisions. Accounting was prepared manually and Expert coordinated the instillation and implementation of the new computer based system.Management Consulting: Expert has been involved in many management consulting engagements. Engagements have ranged from strategic planning, exit strategies, incorporating and business set-up and planning, estate and tax planning, marketing strategies, advertising and sales campaigns, business analysis, budgeting, pricing and costing, and HR planning.
