HVAC and Energy Systems
ID: 730849
Wisconsin, USA
He has conducted research and advised about over 100 MS and PhD students on thesis topics in HVAC including chilled water systems, cooling towers, optimal control strategies, heat pumps, industrial cooling applications, desiccant cooling systems, and building energy use. He has extensive publications in the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) and related technical literature.
He has been heavily involved with the ASHRAE society during his career. He has been a member and chair of Technical Committees and a contributor to the ASHRAE Handbook. He has served as member and Chair of the Research Advisory Committee, which has a research budget of about four million dollars per year, Chair of the ASHRAE Research Advisory Panel, Chair of the Research Strategic Plan Committee, and Chair of the ASHRAE Scoping Committee for 50 % Approach to Net Zero Energy Use in Commercial Buildings. The charge of this last committee was to develop the information on advanced systems and techniques necessary to produce a design guideline for achieving a 50 % energy reduction in buildings. He was Senior Editor of the International Journal of HVAC & R Research for four years, where he was responsible for reviewing and editing research reports on all aspects of the HVAC field.
He has performed technical analysis of HVAC systems and components for various industriesHe has been an expert witness on patent issues involving optimal control of chilled water systems, on control algorithms for HVAC systems, on cooling towers, and on chilled water systems with thermal storage.
