Dimension Stone Quarrying
ID: 733443
Italy
Expert's specific studies have included geomechanical studies in active marble and granite quarries in order to improve the blocks' recovery rate and minimize the waste material production. The detailed geological study was fundamental as a preparatory phase in order to assess the volume of the deposit and correctly address the future exploitation of a dimension stone quarry. In the
same way, detailed geological and geo-mechanical analyses in already active quarries represent an essential tool to delineate deposit extensions, to drawn up the exploitation front direction, to locate new varieties, and to define the geological situation and the possible features that impedes the correct exploitation of the material giving the hints to increase productivity.
He was involved in several research projects of national and international relevance with Firenze and Modena-Reggio Emilia universities. The research subjects were focused on the detailed analyses of the sedimentary and structural processes active at continental/oceanic plate interface. These studies were carried on the field in key fossil examples scattered along the Perimediterranean orogenic belts (Apennines, Dinarids, Hellenides and Anatolia Fold-and-Thrust-Belts.) and the collected data were elaborated in order to propose innovative geological models. These experiences afforded him significant experience in facing and solving problems related to complicate geological scenarios and provide the know-how basis to solve problems related to applied geological challenges. The collected data allow publishing several scientific papers and maps on both national and international earth science journals.
