He has seen patients getting the wrong medication, sorely understaffed units, conflicting orders from doctors, and a myriad of data-entry errors. Being on the floor, day after day, allows me to see where things go wrong – and why. Sometimes a nurse has too heavy patient load some patients needing attention more and it is physically impossible for a nurse to attend to them all at once. Sometimes a hospital won’t restock supplies at the beginning of every shift as a cost-savings strategy, but this leaves nurse without the implements they need to provide good patient care. Imagine your love sitting feces because the unit was not restocked with clean linen.
Nurses are also frequently hamstrung by administrators concerned with patient-satisfaction scores, and they are often treated as though they are guilty until proved innocent whenever something does go wrong. A hospital with a staff operating in a perpetual state of fear is opening the door for mistakes to be made.
As of August 1st 2018 I have been doing sub-contracting work for a consulting group. This is a certified nurse consulting company in which I have been doing Demand Medical Examination (Independent Medical Exam) for their clients. This involves escorting the plaintiff to a court order medical exam and advocating on their behalf, then writing a report and sending back to the consulting group.
