In addition to designing networks and managing development of networking products, Expert has published technical books on networking intended for the operations and management staff who are responsible for procuring, installing, and maintaining corporate and government networks:
VoIP and Unified Communications
T-1 Networking (5th Ed.; >60,000 copies in print)
Frames, Packets, & Cells in Broadband Networking
ATM Users Guide
ISDN: A practical Guide (2nd Ed.)
Voice Over Frame Relay
Over 30 years of business and technical experience underlie my comprehensive understanding of computers, software, and networks for voice, data, facsimile, and video for carriers, enterprises, and government agencies. As marketing VP of two public corporations I analyzed requirements and resources to define corporate strategy for product management and marketing communications. As a consultant I have applied my analysis, writing, and presentation skills to top-level network architectures for major enterprise and government clients and to carrier issues related to voice-data convergence and VoIP. This expertise is evident from six books on networks; analysis of technology, patents, and other intellectual property; support of mergers and acquisitions; and expert witness work regarding contracts, technology, and patents.
Knowledge Areas
Networking of computers, terminals, and specialized devices over local, metro, and wide areas. Includes all protocols and transmission technologies (TDM, Ethernet, frame relay, DSL, ATM, SONET, etc.), the Internet, and voice/video/facsimile. Particularly strong with legacy protocols. Have worked on network availability and resiliency, video transmission, and converged networks. Memberships in Frame Relay Forum Technical Committee and IEEE Communications Society. Telephony and voice processing, including digital encoding of voice, analog and digital signaling, switching, text-to-speech conversion, and voice recognition. Particular strengths in Voice/Video/Facsimile communications (analog and over IP) including servers, gateways, and signaling. Patents and Patent Office procedures, from supporting litigation over patents. As sole inventor, received three US Patents for Systems and Methods of Header Compression in a Software Defined Network.
Security for networks, computers, and applications, including firewalls, authentication, admission control, and encryption. Application software, both embedded and multiplatform: desktop applications, data bases,
network services such as DNS and email, and embedded firmware that controls specialized hardware.
In a dispute between two telecom carriers, Expert reported on the applicability of a patent in support of the defense while preparing for and participating in the deposition of the opposing expert. Claimant settled quickly after deposition of its witness. In a competition for a state-wide lottery network, Expert advised the carrier and the hardware vendor on the overall design and wrote the technical section of the proposal, including detailed drawings. The bid won and the team will deploy routers to 8,500 sites.

| Years | Employer | Title | Department |
| Years: 1998 to 2002 | Employer: Self Employed | Title: Principal Analyst | Department: |
Responsibilities:Expert advised large enterprises on key decisions in their networking architectures. He worked on wide- and metro-area services, network availability and reliability, legacy protocols, voice-data convergence, and Voice over IP. He also consulted with hardware vendors on marketing strategy and product positioning which often resulted in white papers. He also acted as a subject matter expert witness in litigation over a telecom patent. |

| Years | Employer | Title | Department |
| Years: 1991 to 1998 | Employer: (Undisclosed) | Title: VP | Department: Marketing and Technology |
Responsibilities:Expert recruited a team and acquired the technology to move the company from analog modems into digital frame relay access devices. He created the marketing communications and product management programs. Expert also articulated strategic plans, trained sales people on new technologies, and delivered high-level network solutions in major sales opportunities. |

| Years: 1987 to 1991 | Employer: (Undisclosed) | Title: VP of Marketing; VP of Technology | Department: Marketing; Technology |
Responsibilities:Expert positioned the company for growth from no revenue to over $100 million in three years. He managed corporate messages through advertising, public relations, trade shows, consultant liaison, and seminars. He steered the company into successful new markets (frame relay, ATM in the WAN, DSL, very large networks) and away from technologies that later failed (SMDS, ATM in the LAN). |
