Chemical Process Safety Management, Plant Protection, Risk Management, Chemical Plants
ID: 724785
India
He has been involved in self studies related with chemical process safety regulations since 1989. He had successfully implemented these concepts in Reliance Industries Limited, Patalganga (India) in spite of absence of clear regulations in India. He had thoroughly studied OSHA 1910.119 pertaining to process safety management and made several presentations to Indian authorities. He had also delivered several lectures as faculty on this subject on various training programs.
He has been involved in design review studies in various projects pertaining to hydrocarbon processing, chemical reaction engineering. During these studies he had referred various standards published by American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChe), American Petroleum Institute (API), ASME, NFPA, Du Pont standards.
He has been involved in accident investigation related with waste-water storage tank containing hydrocarbon. Two persons were killed in this accident due to the tank oxygen level had increased to result in a flammable vapor space, which ignited.
Lessons that can be learned from this incident are:
The need to know and understand certain key design features and the reasons for them .
The need to appreciate the limits of the design features. For example know how the system will fail.
?The need to be operationally alert to routine that is “too routine." The need to build reasonable backup checks into the operations.
He has worked as HAZOP team leader for design review of various oil & gas, petrochemical, Fine chemicals & bulk drugs chemical plants.
He has worked as a trainer for various training program on chemical safety. He was instrumental in designing undergraduate level course on chemical safety in chemical engineering at University of Mumbai (India). He also acted as faculty in this subject.
He has implemented Chemical Safety Management as per OSHA 1910.119 in several Indian chemical/petrochemical, oil & gas companies.
He studied consequence analysis at Safersystem (USA) and used Safer Real Time Emergency Management system and Safer Trace software to carry out consequence analysis of various identified failure scenarios. He also acted as trainer for various training programs on consequence analysis.
The first book on Disaster Planning was published by him which is coauthored by Mr. V. G. Bukkawar (Retired Director - Industrial Safety & Health), Maharashtra. Several valuable inputs were provided and he acted as faculty for various training programs on Disaster planning for industry/statutory authorities. He has also prepared Disaster Plans for various petrochemical installations and successfully tested by carrying out drills.
Several chemicals/petrochemicals installations were reviewed by him for Emergency Preparedness as a part of Chemical Process Safety Audits as per American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChe) Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) standards.
Safer Trace software was used for modelling various fire and explosion scanarios modelling for Auto Gas installations in south India. He is expert in Safer Trace software and technical details.
