Responsibilities:During Dec 2002 to Jan 2006 he was working as Vice President – Technology Development reporting to CEO (Metals) since Dec 2002 looking after Corporate Research & Development for Sterlite Group ( a group with a turnover exceeding US $ 2 Billion) consisting of Sterlite Copper, Hindustan Zinc Ltd, Bharat Aluminium Co Ltd and Madras Aluminium Co Ltd. The R & D Labs were set up as a new initiative under expert's guidance. The job involved identifying and working on technology development projects in the areas of Copper, Zinc and Aluminium extraction. Set up a E-Library as a novel initiative for dissemination of knowledge in a cost effective manner.The significant achievements during this period, besides setting up of the Technology center were : 1. Setting up of the lab to support development of new technologies with new ethos and environment. Follow up with a 3 year road map with specific targets. New model/ platform for interacting with Plant personnel. 2. Development of process for extraction of Selenium from Copper Slimes 3. Initial development of using biotechnology for ETP 4. Initial development of using Microwaves in ore communion 5. Development of process and Flow sheet for Sindheshwar Khurd deposit of HZL including pilot plant trial. 6. Visited KCM, Zambia, studied the refineries and Lab set up. Gave recommendations for revamping and improving productivity. During jan 1999 to Dec 2002 Worked as the unit head of Sterlite's world class 180,000 Mt Copper Refinery and Casting plant using ISA Process for 4 years. Significant achievements during this period were : 1. The capacity of the plant was increased from 100,000 Mt to 180,000 Mt/year. 2. The product got prestigious registration from London Metal Exchange for Grade A cathodes besides ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 19001. 3. The export effort was also started under my guidance and today Sterlite is a leading player in Middle East copper market. 4. The plant achieved operating and cost parameters compared to the best in the world. He was a member of the Copper Management Committee which formulated policies and frame work for growth of copper business and adoption of best management practices. |

Responsibilities:From Feb 1987 to April 1992, Set up a 60,000 Mt per year Copper Continuous Wire rod plant at Taloja for M/s Employer from conception to commissioning. The plant crossed rated capacity in 2 month’s of commissioning. The product was quality was upgraded to the best quality. Around 80 % of the imported spares were indigenized.Also worked partly as technical consultant to Bureau of Industrial Costs and Prices during the period under deputation on a part time basis. From Aug 1971 to feb 1987,Joined as Graduate Engineer Trainee and rose to the position of Manager (Metallurgy) Worked in the following areas : • Erection & commissioning of Copper Refinery and melting plant • Worked as Executive Asst. to Chief Executive of the complex consisting of Mines and Process plants : exposure to mining operations at Khetri Copper Mines, Kolihan Copper Mines and Chandmari open pit. Also during the period attended and obtained MBA degree from University of Leeds, UK as a British Council Fellow. His MBA project was in the area of mining on cost of reducing the cost of production of Copper. The job involved using tools like Monte Carlo Simulations coupled with computer modeling using Basic Programming for determining optimal copper grade of ore. |
