Expert began the non-profit Kentucky Student Ventures Corporation to focus on education, training and mentoring in order to develop and encourage entrepreneurial skills of Kentucky high school and college-age students to create and operate successful student-run small businesses.
KSVC has established strategic partnerships with organizations that currently provide support and training to young people and would be entrepreneurs. KSVC provides assistance and encourage the creation of student-run businesses. KSVC will serve in the role of a “virtual” small business accelerator by connecting local business leaders as mentors to interested youth and providing other assistance that may be available locally or on the internet.
The Kentucky Student Ventures Corporation (KSVC) incorporate elements of the successful Harvard Student Agencies (HSA), the largest student-run corporation in the world. KSVC is creating a statewide organization and will utilize the Internet and all current technological capabilities including social networking to help stimulate the creation of student-run businesses. Last year HSA employed 500 students and grossed $4 million.
KSVC has teamed with Hardin County Public Schools and the Lincoln Trail Innovation Center for a Summer Youth Program called “Green Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute (GEL-IN).” This “green” program focuses on leadership and entrepreneurship. A teacher / coach will work with up to five teams of five economic disadvantaged youth in each of their eight counties and Expert is Co-Project Manager.
Kentucky Student Ventures Corporation was selected by the Bluegrass Workforce Investment Board to manage a similar “Green” program in Central Kentucky. Expert is leading the “Bluegrass Goes Green” project focuses on developing local community plans to “go green.” There is one team of five economically disadvantaged youth in each of the 17 counties. Youth teams are researching and developing a “green” plan for their communities to present to local government officials.
In September 1997, Expert was one of 50 small business owners across the country to be appointed to the Region IV Regulatory Fairness Board. Expert served as Chair and later Vice-Chair of Region IV and served as a member until 2003. In January 2001, U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator appointed Expert to serve on the SBA National Advisory Council. NAC members provide expert advice, ideas and opinions on SBA programs and small business issues. In May 2001 Expert was appointed by the Governor to chair of the Kentucky Commission on Small Business Advocacy and served in this capacity until September 2005.
Expert was co-manager of the Lexington office of the McConnell Technology & Training Center (MTTC) from 2000-2005. Expert was a RAB certified Internal Auditor in ISO 9001 and TS 16949.
Expert served as lobbyist for PacifiCorp, an international power & energy company providing strategic consulting and economic development.
